The Saudi General Authority for Competition fined the Qatari broadcaster $2.6 million (€2.2m).
The Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) argued the Qatari company had abused its position when transmitting its coverage of the main African football competitions. Rather than transmit the coverage on Egypt’s Nilesat satellite, viewers were required to point their dishes at Qatar’s Suhail Sat satellite.
In August, the authorities in Saudi Arabi revoked channel’s licence. The General Authority for Competition said it was also fining the broadcaster SR10 million for alleged breaches of local competition laws.
