MIPCOM 2018 – CANNES. Beta Film, Italy’s Wildside, the German production outlet Zeitsprung and the Isreali writer/creator trio Nadav Schirman, Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen join forces for German Moon.

The Italian/German co-production, currently in development, is inspired by true but untold stories of German families and former Nazi-scientists, who are behind NASA’s first manned mission to the moon. Shooting of the series is due to start 2019/20.

It’s the year 1950, when sleepy rural Huntsville, Alabama, was overwhelmed by a wave of immigration: A convoy of busses with 118 German families on board cross the Tennessee River. Most of them don’t speak English. The Germans, part of the technological elite of the fallen Nazi regime, are supposed to build ballistic missiles for the US army – under the supervision of the CIA. They are outsiders trying to adjust to a foreign culture and servants of a demanding administration, who are giving them an opportunity to shed their past in exchange of their invaluable knowledge. And while Europe tries to get up, in America a new journey begins. A journey to the German Moon.

Jan Mojto’s Beta Film and Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Mieli’s Wildside share a long-term partnership with the political thriller series 1992, 1993 and most recent 1994, of which first images will be presented during MIPCOM. Zeitsprung, whose credits include the multi-awarded Side Effects, Adidas vs Puma and now Mack the Knife – Brecht’s Threepenny Film, also in Beta’s current MIPCOM line-up, is part of Jan Mojto’s company group.
