Boxer plans entrance into Danish broadband market

32

Boxer is to take advantage of Denmark’s open cable regime to launch its own broadband service.

The country’s third largest TV provider will initially use TDC’s network but intends to develop its own fibre network over time.

To date there has been little interest from operators in using TDC’s technology

“We would like better conditions on the cable TV network. But the market is also such that you have to take what you can get,” Boxer CEO Ulf Lund told Danish financial website Finans.

Lund wants to fill the gap in the market created when TDC purchased the 50,000-subscriber Hiper in October. He wants to lure TDC customers to Boxer by giving them a “strong and cheap alternative”.

The Danish Boxer was purchased in 2017 by the electricity company SE, which holds 14% of the broadband market and is also the owner of cable network Stofa.
