Russia’s leading OTT service ivi is now available to Roku users in the US, Canada and UK.
Kommersant reports that it is offered only in Russian, targeting mostly an expat audience, and consists of around 35,000 pieces of content.
It adds that the only other Russian on demand service available in the US on consoles until now has been Kartina.TV, which has been offered for over a year and includes some content from ivi in its premium package.
However, Megogo has been available as a separate subscription service in North America and Europe for over six years.
Kommersant notes that the expansion of Russian on demand services may be more difficult in the future due to recently approved amendments to Audiovisual Media Services Directive requiring a minimum 30% share of European content in online movie services.
