Lithuanian distributors sidestep Russian TV sanctions

The content of some Russian TV channels is being changed so that they can be shown in Lithuania.

Quoting Mantas Martisius, the vice chairman of the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTK), speaking to BNS, Baltic Times reports that this is being undertaken by distributors in Lithuania rather than the channel producers in Russia.

He cites the example of Baltic Media Alliance, which makes cuts to some programmes on the First Channel and NTV that feature hatred, replacing them with ads so that they can be shown in Lithuania.

In some instances, whole shows that are shown in Russia will not be rebroadcast in Lithuania in order to avoid sanctions.

LRTK’s recently published 2017 reports says that Lithuania remains a target of Russia’s information war.
