Her appointment was announced by EVP of Global Communications and Talent Relations Chris Albert as the broadcaster is bringing an expanded, integrated marketing, communications, fan engagement and talent relations team under Chief Marketing Officer Jill Cress.
“For 130 years, talent has been the heart and soul of National Geographic, from explorers and photographers in the field to the talented channel artists, both on and off the screen. Our talent is what brings to life stories that have the power to change the world,” said Cress.
“Missy will help drive and realize the full potential of the unrivaled storytellers across our media portfolio. Our talent pool is unique in the industry, and with Missy’s years of experience and expertise, she will guide us in fully realizing the potential of our talent and fan engagement.”
Added Albert: “Missy literally wrote the book on talent relations. Having seen her work up close as a client, I’m beyond thrilled to have her join us officially in this new role. She has an impeccable reputation in the entertainment community and beyond, and I have no doubt that her extensive experience in talent management and fan engagement will drive our integrated strategy further. We could not be more fortunate to have her joining our team.”
“I’ve already witnessed the power of the iconic yellow border firsthand, in an agency capacity, when working with Chris and the incredible talent team at National Geographic on their tentpole events and campaigns,” said Birns-Halperin.
“What makes National Geographic unique is their unparalleled media portfolio, with which they can really amplify their extraordinary community of bold people. I hope to continue to strategically maximize their talent and take them further, in hopes to inspire the next generation of curiosity seekers and adventurers.”
Prior to National Geographic, Birns-Halperin was the Executive Vice President, Talent Relations for Fox Broadcasting Company, a responsibility she held for nearly 30 years.
In 2016, she left her network job and formed her own talent agency, Missy Halperin Talent Group, where she used her three decades of experience in the entertainment industry as a relationship builder and connector to create powerful alliances, elevate corporate relations and create authentic bonds between companies, talent, customers and employees.
