Netflix is planning to increase the number of shows it produces in Europe in languages other than English.

It follows success for Spanish crime programme Money Heist and German mystery Dark that have enjoyed success around the world.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Web summit in Lisbon Netflix chief product officer Greg Peters said 90% of viewing comes from outside the country of origin.

It’s been confirmed Netflix is entering into production on two new shows in Norway and Spain, which will become available in 2020.

Already the streamer plans to go live with Baby (Italy), Plan Coeur (France) and Protector (Turkey) before the end of the year.

Five new German titles and another seven in French are also in the frame.

Netflix has hired Adam Price – creator of Danish political drama Borgen to produce Ragnarok which tells the story of a Norsk God who is reincarnated in modern day Norway.

“We believe that the Nordic Region has its own voice when it comes to storytelling, and we would like to help show this large-scale series,” said Price.

The series will be shown in six parts and is set in the fictional Norwegian city of Edda.
