The political appointment was officially proposed by Emmanuel Macron.
The approval of the candidature followed appearances before French deputies and senators on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Maistre will succeed Olivier Schrameck, whose term completed last week, and had now been appointed to the Higher Council of the judiciary.
Separately, Michèle Léridon, former director of information for AFP, succeeds Sylvie Pierre-Brossolette on the board of the regulator. A replacement for Memona Hintermann-Afféjee is currently awaiting appointment by the speaker.
