Japanese electronics manufacturer Sharp is to introduce a new ultra-high-definition 8K TV to the Japanese market this November.

The device is expected to go on sale on November 17, two weeks before the launch of a new 4K/8K channel from public broadcaster NHK that will make its first transmission on December 1.

The three models scheduled for release are the first domestic models that don’t require an external tuner.

8K UHD (4320p) offers a resolution of 7680 × 4320 (33.2 megapixels). 8K also offers a richer sound experience with 22.2 multi-channel sound, which has been developed by NHK Science & Technical Research Laboratories. It uses 24 speakers (including two subwoofers) arranged in three layers.

Sharp, which is showcasing the new products at the electronics trade fair CEATEC Japan this week is offering three screen sizes with pricing ranging from $6,700 for the 60-inch model and $17,800 for the 80-inch model.

Earlier this year the annual IFA consumer electronics event in Berlin saw 8K launches from Samsung and LG.
